Geographic education in rural schools is of utmost importance for students to
understand the elements that make up geographic space, that is, the world and its
social and environmental issues. However, for Geography teaching to be effective, the
students' needs and daily lives must be taken into account. By connecting the subject
matter to the environment in which they live, quality teaching in Geography becomes
possible. This study aims to present the experience of producing and experimenting
with a didactic resource titled "Climograph of the Semi-Arid." This project was
developed during the Specialization Course in Contextualized Education for Living in
the Semi-Arid Region, focusing on Human and Social Sciences, specifically in
Geography teaching at the Municipal Basic Education School Ildefonso Anselmo da
Silva, located in Amparo, PB, Brazil. To conduct this research, we applied qualitative
research principles through Action Research, which was divided into phases of
training/production and experimentation in academic and school contexts. The
production and experimentation of the didactic resource took place in the classroom,
involving both students and the primary teacher. We found that the didactic resource
developed was of great importance as it presented the study of climates in a concrete
and contextualized way, making it more relatable to students. Without this resource,
climates would have been addressed only through textbook images, which are often
disconnected from the students' reality. Thus, we identified how valuable it was to
involve students in creating this didactic resource, enhancing their learning and
contributing to quality geographic education in rural schools.
