Abstract:
Our work was carried out as part of the Specialization Course in Contextualized Education for
Coexistence with the Semi-Arid at the Centre for Sustainable Development in the Semi-Arid
(CDSA) of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). The research presents the
results of the study entitled “Country School in Poetry: The Production of Cordel to Strengthen
Cultural Traditions in the Municipality of Sumé-PB”, the general objective of which was to
construct cordel as a didactic resource to enhance the teaching-learning process in the teaching
of Human and Social Sciences through mediation carried out at the “José Bonifácio Barbosa de
Andrade” Country School, located in the municipality of Sumé-PB. This research was based on
conceptual and methodological propositions of qualitative research, with an emphasis on Action
Research. In order to carry out our work, we highlight the following bibliographical references:
Barbosa (2018); Barros (2010); Penteado (2008); Carvalho and Oliveira (2019); Mota,
Nogueira, Farias and Oliveira (2019); Soares (2007); Nogueira (2009); Ferreira (2015); Santos
(2006); Laraia (2009); Cruz (2007); Moreira (2018); Neves and Barros (2018); Ghedin and
Franco (2011) and Piletti (2006). The data collected through the work was analyzed in a
descriptive and interpretive way, since it was characterized by the observation and correlation
of facts, seeking to describe the characteristics or relationships existing in the actions carried
out in the classroom through Action Research. In addition, we present the stages of the
application of the study through workshops, which are illustrated with photos, showing the
stages of the pedagogical intervention at various times during the research. We found that the
research carried out was relevant to enhancing students' learning in relation to the teaching of
the Humanities and Social Sciences, as these participants acquired, through the production of
the cordel in the classroom, a better understanding of the themes of “Identity and Culture”,
starting to express, through the construction of verses and stanzas, essential and significant
knowledge about the traditions and cultural representations of their own context.
