Resumen:
Distance Education (DE) has gained relevance as an educational modality that provides access to higher education for individuals facing geographical, economic and time limitations. This study analyzed how DE impacts socioeconomic mobility, quality of life and career prospects of students, in addition to investigating the challenges faced and the reasons that lead to choosing this modality. Therefore, the objective of the research was to investigate the impact of DE on socioeconomic mobility and quality of life, analyzing factors such as the benefits provided, the challenges faced and access for less privileged groups. The methodology adopted was quantitative, with the application of a questionnaire to 42 participants, whose answers were analyzed in specific categories, presented through figures and discussed in light of the existing literature. The results indicated that 67.4% of the participants recognized a significant contribution of DE to improving their employment prospects and career growth, evidencing the positive impact on socioeconomic mobility. In terms of quality of life, 44.2% of respondents highlighted flexible schedules as the main benefit, allowing them to balance studies with other personal and professional responsibilities. The choice of distance learning was motivated by factors such as flexible schedules (76.7%) and the possibility of reconciling studies with work and family. Despite these advances, the study revealed important challenges: 27.9% of participants reported difficulty in maintaining motivation and discipline, while 23.3% highlighted the lack of interaction with teachers and colleagues. In addition, 69.8% of participants stated that distance learning offers significant opportunities for access to education for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, corroborating its relevance as a tool for inclusion. It is concluded that distance learning is an important instrument for promoting social and economic inclusion, expanding employment opportunities and transforming the reality of low-income populations. However, there is a need to overcome barriers such as limited technological infrastructure and the lack of adequate pedagogical support. The study reinforces the importance of public policies that guarantee both the expansion and quality of distance education, ensuring that this modality becomes a true agent of social transformation towards a more just and egalitarian society.
