Resumen:
The safflower is an Indian plant, introduced in Brazil during the early colonization for
to mark the gold deposits trails. It has been used in the food industry, pharmacy and agriculture.
Relative humidity and temperature are the most important factors to affect longevity and storage
quality. The objective of this work was the evaluation of physiological quality of maize seeds after
treated with safflower. It were packed in paper and polyethylene bags and stored for eight months.
The seeds presented good storage conditions in natural environment in Palmas, Tocantins. The results
of this treatment were efficient when compared to the chemical treatment. The moisture content of
maize seeds was kept unchanged in polyethylene bags and it varied in accordance to the environment
humidity in paper bags.
