Resumen:
Markets, particularly agroecological fairs, play a crucial role as spaces that support family
and agroecological farming practices, preserve traditional knowledge, and contribute to
local culture and economy. Aware of this significance, this study aims to highlight the
value of these spaces and organic production, often overlooked by society and threatened
by the growth of large supermarket chains and the gradual erosion of these traditions.
Thus, this research analyzed the dynamics of organic production and sales among farmers
who sell their products at the Rural Producer's Market in São José de Piranhas, PB. To
achieve this, primary data were collected through field research, using semi-structured
interviews to understand the realities experienced by the producers, covering both
production and commercialization. A mixed qualitative-quantitative approach was
adopted, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the qualitative aspects of farmers' lives and
work, as well as quantitative data on production. The results demonstrate that, although
the market is a highly valuable space, offering numerous benefits to the community, such
as providing organic products that generate income for farmers and health benefits for
consumers, both the market and the producers lack adequate recognition and appreciation.
This study presents the Rural Producer's Market, discussing issues related to production
and commercialization as raised by the farmers themselves. Through theoretical
discussion, it underscores the relevance of agroecological practices and their production
methods, as well as the importance of markets as supportive spaces for these practices.
Finally, with a suggestion to incorporate geographic content on this topic into the local
school curriculum, the study aims to promote the market and organic agricultural
practices, seeking to contribute to the market's preservation.
