This Course Completion Work is the result of research on the Teaching of Geography in
the Early Years of Elementary School, with regard to teaching Pedagogical Practices.
The Early Years of Elementary School represent one of the most important phases of
Basic Education. It is during this stage that the literacy process takes place, in which
children develop skills and competencies that will be improved throughout their school
life. Therefore, guidance for the training of students at this level, Geography Teaching,
must be encouraged from the perspective of training for citizenship, with a critical and
autonomous positioning, parallel to literacy activities, as they are essential for the
student’s development. Thus, the main objective of the work was; analyze the Teaching
of Geography in the Initial Years of Elementary School, based on the pedagogical
practices of teachers, and based on this principle, we sought to identify the conception
of teaching teachers regarding the Geography school curriculum, observe how teachers
incorporate geographic knowledge into room, through the methodologies used in
teaching this subject and identify the difficulties that teachers in the Initial Years of
Elementary School encounter in Geography Teaching. The methodological process
consists primarily of the theoretical foundation, based on authors and works that debate
the theme of Geography Teaching in the literacy process, from a critical perspective,
later a qualitative research was carried out, where na interview was carried out with the
teachers of the Early Years. As a result, it became clear that the curricular concepts
understood by teachers are fragmented, which can cause difficulties in working with the
Critical Curriculum in the classroom. The textbook is still one of the main teaching
materials used in the development of classes. The lack of adequate training for teachers
is one of the factors that makes it impossible to develop good pedagogical practices for
Geography Teaching. Thus identifying the existence of challenges to be faced to make
Geography Teaching meaningful in the Early Years.
