Resumo:
The objective of this research is to study and analyze the relation between the literary universe
of Edgar Allan Poe, and the film adaptation “The Fall Of The House Of Usher”, released in
2023, through the lenses of the theory of adaptation and the concepts of intersemiotic
translation, interrelated with the elements of gothic literature. As theoretical basis we used the
critics of the adaptations studies Jakobson (1969), Plaza (2008), Hutcheon (2006) and
Hattnher (2010), and gothic literature scholars Mello (2008), Souza and Cavalcante (2014)
and Fletcher (1973). It is a bibliographical study developed by the analysis of the selected
corpus. We seek to understand how the story of Edgar Allan Poe was built and portrayed and
how the general works of the writer and his main characteristics were used to elaborate on the
key plot of Netflix’s adaptation.
