Abstract

The development of fiber. ópticas technology has inspired its application to many local area networks. The unique characteristics of this tecnology provide new possibilitics for local area networking such as new services and new apllications. However, the present state of fiber optics tecnology puts some limits which require changes in the usual structures of local area networks.
