Abstract:
In this work, the physic-chemical characteristics of oil of two castor oil
varieties (Brs-149 Nordestina and Brs-188 Paraguaçu) had been determined. Analyses of
humidity, acid value, peroxide index, soapy index and iodine index had been gotten, in
agreement methodology of the INSTITUTE ADOLPH LUTZ (1985). The moisture content
found in the rude oil of the two varieties have been minor that 0,55 w.b. The acidity was 1,6 mg
KOH/g for the BRS-149 oil and 0,25 mgKOH/g for the BRS-188 oil, therefore, they are classified as
type 1 and 3, respectively. On the basis of the iodine index results, the oils can be classified as
half-dry oils. The soapy index, the peroxide index and the refractive index are in compliance
