Résumé:
Wood packs, usually made with boards of reforestation wood, have high resistance,
structural rigidity and low cost. Besides, great number of small companies, many of them family
enterprise, are devoted to wood packing, assisting the local market and acting as a job suppliers.
The characteristics of resistance of the wood pack allow them to be reused, however, such package
do not make possible cleaning or appropriate disinfection, once wood is a hygroscopic material.
Another fúndamental characteristic for horticultural products packing is its ability for refrigeration
to prolonging its life shell. For wood pack that is another problem, since the refrigeration, due to the
temperature conditions and relative humidity, favors the emergence of fungus. In this research the
efficiency of the use of derived product of the castor oil was evaluated in the impermeabilization of
pinus, reforestation wood commonly used for wood pack. The results demonstrated that the product
was efficient, delaying and reducing water absorption, allowing wood to go thought the cleaning
process and to be used in the refrigeration process.
