Resumo:
The goal of the present work is to determine the fraction of the mist which evaporates
(β) into an acclimatized broiler housing. Determination of β was made by a steady-state heat balance
and the data of air dry bulb temperature (tdb), relative humidity (RH) and velocity (V); as well as the
flow rate of mist water measured in an acclimatized broiler housing equipped with tunnel ventilation
with negative pressure and pad and misting evaporative cooling systems, working simultaneously.
The broiler housing was divided in 4 sections (30, 60, 90 e 120 m), where the data of tdb, RH and V
were measured, being analyzed only the data in the sections in which the misting system was installed.
The values of β were calculated by heat balance equation for the periods in which no changes in tdb
were detected for at least 5 minutes. The best equation fitted, linear without intercept, has r2
= 0.88,
with coefficients of the variables tdb and RH significant (P>0.0001 and P>0.0197, respectively). The β
equation was incorporated in the model to predict tdb and RH throughout an acclimatized housing,
which resulted in standard errors of 0.81ºC and 5.51%, respectively
