Diagnosis of automation in dairy farming, Brazil is one of the greater milk producers of
the world. The milk production occupies a prominent space in the Brazilian agribusiness. The
agribusiness of milk and derivatives is modernizing, becoming more competitive and sustainable, and
the automation must be considered as a tool in this path of modernization and of quality improvement.
The automation application is wide and has potential of contribution in the milk production. In this
context, the intention of this work was to carry out the diagnosis of automation in the dairy farming in
Southern Minas Gerais, emphasizing the existing automation types, improvement of the productive
process in the milk properties with the automation implementation, and the difficulties faced in the
automation implantation. The results indicated that several options of equipment exists that automate
processes in the milk production. The study also allowed the verification that the bigger difficulty
faced by the producers to automate the milk properties is the high cost of the equipment, and that the
automation reality is only for the greatest milk producers.
