Abstract:
The goal of the present work is modeling the pad cooling efficiency (h) based on
steady-state heat and mass transfer equations. As input data to model, it was used the temperature,
humidity and mass flow rate of air that pass through the PAD; the temperature and mass flow rate of
water that wet the PAD material; the specific area and diameter of the material used to fill the PAD
and PAD dimensions. The model can be used in the determination of h of evaporative cooling systems
composed by approximately spherical materials, such as the expanded clay. In addition it can provide
a better understanding of the processes involved in the evaporative cooling of the air that pass through
the PAD, providing insights about the system.
