Resumen:
With an irrigated area of approximately 650 thousand hectares, it is possible to estimate
a consumption of 830 GWh per year due to center pivot systems in Brazil. Considering the lack of
regulation concerning the specific consumption of these equipments, center pivot systems have a great
potential to the implementation of efficiency measures as well as the need to propose a methodology
for energy evaluation. Analyzing the irrigation as a subsystem consisting of an electric motor-pump,
water supply and sprinkling systems, in this work is presented a methodology for the evaluation of its
energy efficiency. General and specific indicators for the comparison of the center pivots concerning
the use of water and energy are also proposed. The indicators proposed are applied to a center pivot
under two conditions of energy efficiencies, it is obtained a reduction from 11,1793
kWh/(mm.hour.day) to 4,6771 kWh/(mm.hour.day), where 58.16% on energy savings is observed
