ABSTRACT - This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the variation of depth irrigation in the
growth of the maize culture (Zea mays L.) for obtaining the baby corn, determined from the
evapotranspiration of the culture, based on class A pan evaporation and applied when the
evapotranspiration reached these following accumuleted values: T1-15 mm, T2- 30 mm, T3-45 mm e
T4- 60 mm. The statistical model used was the outlinement completely whit four treatments and whit
five repetitions. Results were submitted to the statistical analysis, by the Sisvar program (FERREIRA,
2000). The analysis of variance and the averagens from the treatments werw also recorded, as well as
compared considering 5% of probability according to the Tukey test and regression analysis. Five
plants were selected for analysing the growth for parcel. The characteristics that belongs to the
growth: plant height (PE), leaf number (LN), foliar area (FA), foliar area index (FAI). Were observed
significant differences in the values of foliar area and foliar area index. The increase in the depth
irrigation and the application frequency implied in bigger values foliar area and foliar area index.
