Relações de compadrio em Pocinhos no final da Primeira República (1927-1930).

Abstract

This work presents questions about the relationships between compadres in the district of Pocinhos during the period between 1927 and 1930. The aim is to understand the relationships between these individuals and the social structure at the end of the First Brazilian Republic. To achieve this, the study applied the serialization method to the baptism records of the local parish church. In addition to a qualitative approach, the data received statistical and quantitative treatment, as well as the structuring of social networks. Contrary to the initial hypothesis, the results did not provide evidence that a significant portion of the population chose influential individuals from a political-economic standpoint as their compadres.
