Abstract:
Laboratory measured values of discharge, radius of throw and radial precipitation
profile of a PLONA-RL400 gun sprinkler were used in digital simulations of water application
uniformity provided by traveling gun machines operating with this sprinkler under different
combinations of wetted angle and towpath spacing. Simulated uniformity values were arranged and
presented under three different clusters, each one corresponding to a different set of sprinkler
operational conditions (nozzle versus service pressure) that results on the same radial precipitation
profile geometrical shape (I, II or III). For the three profile shapes obtained, it was observed that
higher uniformity values were achieved with towpath spacings of 80 to 90% of the wetted diameter,
and wetted angles on the 180 to 230° range.
