Resumo:
The main goal of this work was to study the effect of application of the increasing
quantity of potassium fertilization. The fertilization used was the potassium chloride. Crop studied was
papaya, group Formosa, variety Tainung Nº 1. Study was carried in the located at the Distrito de
Irrigação Jaguaribe Apodi (DIJA), Ceará, Brazil. It was applied four differents quantity of potassium
nitrate (69, 137, 172 and 206 kg KNO3 ha-1 month-1). This quantity corresponded to 50, 100, 125 and
150% of the recommended through soil analyzed. Analyzed tributes were: productivity of fruit and
total levels soluble solids in the fruit. Results showed that great quantity of potassium nitrate increased
the productivity of fruit and increased the total levels soluble solids in the fruit, too. However, this
occurred until a certain point and it decreased.
