Résumé:
In the Primary Health Care (PHC) setting, nurses are responsible for nursing
consultations as one of their exclusive activities. Given the specificities of the elderly, nurses
are required to have skills in gerontological and geriatric assessment and care management,
with a view to preserving their autonomy and independence, as well as ensuring a better quality
of life. Objectives: To learn the opinion of nurses about gerontological and geriatric nursing
consultations in primary health care; and to raise essential elements for gerontological and
geriatric nursing consultations from the perspective of nurses specialized in teaching, research,
and management of care/assistance to the elderly. Methodology: Exploratory and descriptive
study with a qualitative approach carried out with 15 specialist nurses working in the field of
Gerontology from all over Brazil. Data were collected between October and December 2024
through a semi-structured interview conducted in a virtual environment. The textual corpus was
processed in the IRAMUTEQ software, systematized in Descending Hierarchical Classification
(DHC) and analyzed based on the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. Results: the classes
originated by the DHC dendrogram signaled the elaboration of two subcategories: I - The
multidimensionality of the evaluation of the elderly person, whose findings provided guidance
for conducting the first stage of the nursing process; and II - Nursing interventions: evidence-
based decision-making, with an emphasis on proposing viable and resolutive care, guidance
and strategies. Final considerations: The nurse must demonstrate skills and abilities to
integrate biopsychosocial aspects and multidimensional evaluation of the elderly person during
the nursing consultation. The adoption of a systematized approach can be made possible
through an instrument that contributes to the operationalization of this care, which is composed
of a checklist with all aspects of the elderly person's life.
