Abstract:
In Brazilian semiarid region, the production of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) shows relevance for the strengthening of family farming. The cultivation of this vegetable in hydroponic system with the foliar application of organic fertilizer contributes to the mitigation of the challenges imposed by the edafoclimatic conditions of this region. An example of this is the use of VIUSID Agro® fertilizer, a compound that activates the molecular processes without affecting the environment. In this sense, the study aimed to evaluate the growth and development of hydroponic lettuce under effect of VIUSID Agro® fertilizer in Brazilian semiarid region. The research was developed in a family farming property, in a country area of Bom Jesus (town of Paraíba state, Brazil) in the period from July 22 to September 4, 2019. The experimental design used was the so-called Inteiramente casualizado (Fully cocooned) composed of five concentrations of VIUSID Agro® (0,0; 0,2; 0,4; 0,6 e 0,8 ml L -1 ) with fifteen biological repetitions per treatment. The morphological characteristics were measured number of leaves, shoot height, stem diameter, fresh and dry shoot, root length, fresh and dry root shoot. The obtained results indicate that the concentration of 0,4 ml L -1 exceeds the control group in most of variables analyzed, except for the stem diameter, besides keeping itself equal to the control on the number of leaves. The foliar application of VIUSID Agro® improves the performance of morphological characteristics of lettuce in hydroponic cultivation system. Although this is the first research conducted in Brazil which has been testing the VIUSID Agro® fertilizer in hydroponic lettuce, results have shown themselves promising, besides encouraging further researches.
