Resumo:
The vegetation cover is indispensable for the protection and conservation of natural
resources, mainly the soils, and its presence or absence influences the runoff regime characteristics. The
aim of this study is to evaluate the soil hydraulic characteristics with and without vegetation cover, using a
rainfall simulator. The results pointed out that the area with caatinga vegetation provided a reduction of
49,22% in the runoff, when compared to that produced without cover, emphasizing the importance of the
vegetation cover as a way to control the erosive process and flooding.
