Abstract:
The tests were conducted at the hydraulics laboratory belongs to the “Universidade
Federal de Lavras”, MG. A hydraulic ram pump was build with PVC and metallic threadable
connections with PET bottle as an air camera. The manufacturer features tested were: bottle size (0.6
and 2.5 L), lid hole size of the bottle (5, 15 and 25 mm), bottle models (Guaraná Antártica disposable,
Coca-Cola returnable, Coca-Cola disposable) and escape valve position (horizontal and vertical). The
operational hydraulic head was 4.36 m and the simulated pump elevation pressure were 48.39 to
483.92 kPa, 48.39 by 48.39 kPa. The best efficiency, the biggest pumped water flow, the lowest
operational water flow and the lowest wasted water flow were obtained using 0.6 L PET disposable or
returnable bottle of Coca-Cola with horizontal escape valve and lid hole size of 25 mm.
