Abstract:
Lately the Federal government in partnership with many non-profit entities is developing conventional alternatives of mitigating the effects of water scarcity in Brazilian semiarid region (BSA) through the social and water technology deployment which represent a paradigm shift in the field of human development. This study aimed to identify the guiding aspects from the improvements in the quality of life by the benefited families through the social water technologies of coexistence with BSA in Aguas Belas community, located in Nazarezinho city – PB. The research was merged with the bibliographic and documental surveys as well as the field study, and that was mainly performed through 53 semi-structured interviews with the benefited families by the social water technologies. Among some improvements, such resources enabled the democratization of the access to water, whose precious liquid is used in different ways as for drinking and the animal raising, as well as for the ecological feed production for instance of greenery and fruits. Then, the social water technologies of coexistence with BSA has performed an important function in the water and feed security field, and thus providing greater welfare to the residents of Aguas Belas community. However, those technologies in themselves do not resolve all the problems that affect the community analyzed and the BSA as a whole, and others complementary public policies are necessaries for the achievement of the more significant improvements.
