Max, o anti-herói de Chico Buarque: uma análise do personagem da Ópera do Malandro.

Abstract

From the perspective of the rogue, the Brazilian anti-hero, this study proposes an analysis of the character Max, the protagonist of the play Ópera do Malandro (1978), by Chico Buarque de Holanda, as a malandro, a branch of the anti-hero identifiable in Brazilian literature. Max is a persona that involves selfishness, trickery and cunning, which enables him to act as a criminal, tax evader and manipulator of the people around him. In this sense, Buarque's work in question highlights a character who performs a representation of this country marked by institutional corruption and the prevalence of the <jeitinho brasileiro=. Regarding the analysis itself, the concepts of anti-hero, malandro and trickster served as the theoretical basis of the research. Thus, the analysis of the drama reveals a connection between the character and contexts, namely the context of the writing - the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), more precisely the period in which AI-5 was in force, and the internal context depicted in the fiction - the Era Vargas. This is a bibliographic and qualitative research, with character and plot analysis supported by authors such as Campbell (2007), Jung (2002; 2008), Prado (1988), Matta (1997) and others.
