Resumo:
Autism is a developmental disorder, deficit in oral communication, difficulty in
social integration, and may present restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior. Its etiology
is unknown and the diagnosis of ASD occurs clinically, based on observations of the child and
interviews with parents and/or caregivers. In addition to the traditional therapies used in the
treatment of children with ASD, another possibility can be highlighted, such as pollination.
Technique used to evaluate the interactivity of autistic children through environmental
behavior, being carried out through playful activities of the pollination process with bees
included in the intervention with children within the therapy method for behavioral
development. The objective of the study was to carry out a search in the literature that
addresses the use of native bees in the monitoring of autistic children. Methodologically, the
study is a literature review, carried out between May and August 2022, in the databases of
Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), in the Scientific
Electronic Library Online (SciELO) , Google Scholar and other reliable sources that cover the
topic mentioned above. It was initially decided to include the following research: scientific
articles, monographs, dissertations and theses that discuss the topic, which are in English
and Portuguese, have free access, full text, published and indexed in the aforementioned
databases between the period from 2012 to 2022. The literature review included the following
points: native bees of the caatinga and their health benefits; an overview of Autism Spectrum
Disorder, Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the therapeutic possibilities in
the follow-up to ASD. It is concluded that beekeeping, represented in this study as the use of
native bees, can be a therapeutic possibility in the monitoring of autistic children, since it is
possible to insert environmental education and the importance of pollination so that these
children are able to develop their cognitive abilities through playful activities and in contact
with nature.
