Resumen:
Sheep farming is one of the oldest agricultural activities and of great importance to
the Brazilian economy, but it has some bottlenecks that prevent the sector from
growing and gaining more space in the market. This work aimed to rank the main
problems identified in the production chain of sheep farming in the municipality of
Cabaceiras, Paraíba. Methodological procedures adopted were: semi-structured
identification with specialists who work in sheep farming in the municipality to list
them, and then this list was validated by the interviewees. To hierarchize the
problems, the hierarchical analysis method (AHP) was used. The survey results show
that the problem with the greatest impact, with 41.82%, is the theft of creations,
followed by feeding during the dry season (25.20%); about 15.90%; Diseases with
12.05% and 5.03% specific facilities, compromising the animal's life, causing
production losses, reduced profits and difficulties in raising sheep, making it
impossible for the sector to reach new markets.
