Resumo:
The study presented here analyzed in a comprehensive and systematic way the management of
solid waste from healthcare services in an Emergency Care Unit
located in Pombal, Paraíba. The study investigated collection practices, treatment
and disposal of waste in this unit, considering technical, regulatory aspects
and environmental. To this end, an exploratory-descriptive study was developed,
subsidized by bibliographic and field research techniques, in which we sought
observe, analyze, correlate and describe events or phenomena, including
its variables, without manipulating them, through data collection. The results
revealed challenges and opportunities in managing waste from healthcare services in
emergency care contexts. The research offered valuable insights to
improve waste management strategies in this unit, contributing to the
safety of health professionals, public health and preservation of the environment
environment. It was identified that the evaluated establishment has a planning
specific, focusing on the management of solid waste from health services, in addition to
compliance with health rules provided in legislation and the plan and that the
use of socio-environmental tools or technologies aimed at
sustainable development and full responsibility plays a crucial role
in promoting the production and integrated management of solid waste.
