Resumo:
Within what humanity produces, information can be considered one of its most
valuable and dynamic products. Therefore, it becomes relevant to investigate means
that facilitate the transmission and understanding of the messages contained within it.
A promising medium for this purpose is infographics, an artifact commonly used by
journalists and information designers, for instance. Thus, the overall objective of this
research seems feasible: to propose recommendations for the production of
infographics and data visualizations from a semiotic approach, aiming to fulfill the
purposes of research, planning, and configuration—i.e., the purposes of information
design. To achieve this, an exploratory-descriptive research was conducted using a
qualitative approach, supported by a visual, semiotic, and relational analysis sheet as
a specific instrument for data collection, organization, and analysis. The study focused
on the processes involved in the creation of infographics. After identifying the influence
of semiotic elements in two stages of the objects, it is generally recommended to
always gather information about the target audience and build or expand knowledge
about the types of graphs that can be worked with, the target audience, the theme of
the message, and the context in which it will circulate. Regarding the planning purpose,
it is recommended to focus on the generation of symbols and indices. As for the
configuration purpose, it is advised to prioritize icons and symbols, the latter of which
can have a more global or specific symbolic character for each production.
