Resumen:
The importance to reduce water losses in irrigated agriculture areas has intensified the
search for techniques that aim to the efficient use of the water resources. Searching for technical
information that helps to develop a hose connection, type quick coupling, to be used in water
distribution of furrow irrigation system, head loss evaluations were done in four types sprinklers quick
couplers found in the market. The experiment was developed in a closed hydraulic circuit constituted
basically of a hydrometer to measurement the discharge and a manometer with pressure points to
determine the pressure loss. Each coupling was tried three times, with the head loss measured at the
discharge range of 0.5 to 5.0 m³/h, with 0.5 m³/h intervals. From the experimental data head losses
curves were constructed, and the values of K were estimated for each coupler. The coupler model that
presented the lesser values of head loss, due to its structural project, showed to have the greatest
potential to be used as a prototype to initiate the development of hose quick coupler.
