Resumo:
This research, entitled "The Practices of Social Pedagogy: Conceptions of Elderly Women at
the Luca Zorn Long-Term Care Institution," addresses a crucial topic in the social context,
given the significant role that social pedagogy plays in providing focused attention to those
most in need of its practices. The objective of this study was to understand the contributions
of social pedagogy in working with the elderly at the Luca Zorn Long-Term Care Institution.
Theoretically, the research is grounded in a review of the literature on the subject. It is a field
research with an exploratory character and a qualitative approach. Structured interviews, non-
participant observation, and a field diary were used for data collection. The results indicate
relevant contributions of social pedagogy in working with the elderly at the Luca Zorn Long-
Term Care Institution. Furthermore, the actions of this pedagogy within the institution
contribute to the adaptive process of the resident elderly women by promoting motor and
cognitive development, imagination, and creativity. It was also possible to identify that social
pedagogy elevates the quality of life, contributes to well-being, improves mental and physical
health, and enhances social interactions among the elderly women. It is concluded that social
pedagogy within the Luca Zorn Institution is necessary, as its practical actions significantly
contribute to the development of the various areas that comprise the elderly person, from their
interactions to the evolution of their health.
