Abstract:
This study investigates the difficulties in learning first-degree equations in elementary
education, a topic of significant relevance in the Brazilian educational context. The research
highlights that the teaching of Mathematics faces structural challenges that impact students'
understanding and proficiency. Data show that the lack of ongoing training and appreciation
for teachers, combined with inadequate pedagogical approaches, contribute to students' poor
performance. Furthermore, the relationship between socioeconomic status and performance in
Mathematics reveals inequalities that hinder learning. The research also addresses the
implications of popular perceptions about Mathematics, which often discourage students, and
proposes teaching strategies that can facilitate understanding of first-degree equations,
promoting a more inclusive and effective education.
