Resumo:
This study analyzes the impact of municipal public policies on the formation of readers in
Camalaú, PB, aiming to understand how the implemented actions have contributed to children's
cognitive development through reading. The research, based on a qualitative approach,
involved interviews with administrators, teachers, and parents to capture perceptions and
challenges in the execution of reading incentive policies. The results show that programs such
as the LEEI Program (Reading and Writing in Early Childhood Education), the National
Literate Child Commitment (CNCA), and Alfabetiza Mais Paraíba play a strategic role in
promoting literacy and encouraging reading from an early age. However, challenges such as
low family participation, lack of books at home, and some teachers’ resistance to applying
reading methodologies were identified as obstacles to the full development of this practice. The
study concludes that strengthening public reading policies requires integrated actions between
school, family, and government, promoting a more structured and accessible reading
environment for students.
