Resumo:
To be called intense rainfall the rain of intensity and duration critics of the determinate
application. The knowledge of the interaction between intensity, duration and frequency of these
events is fundamentally in design of hydraulic projects to overflowing control, and others. Spatial
distribution reconstitution of the phenomenon makes possible the average conditions knowledge of
spatial variability, what it allows to infer on areas where its occurrence is pronounced. This work aims
to promote the intense rainfall mapping associated to 20, 360 and 1440 minutes duration time and
return periods of 5 and 50 years, for the state of Minas Gerais , working with maximum intense
rainfall series of 177 weather stations, using kriging, with the GeoR software. It was evidenced
superiority of the storm design in regions close to Espinhaço Mountain and Canastra Mountain. This
situation should be associated to occurrence of orographic or convective rainfall formation.
Intermediate intensities were observed to Southern and Central of the State, and lower values for the
Northern region. For duration time of 1440 minutes it was observed increase of intense rainfall in the
Southern and Central regions, being possible explained by more incidence of cold frontal rainfall.
