Abstract:
Inclusive Education is part of a context that aims to eliminate discrimination against students
with special needs, who often face barriers in accessing the public education system. In this
sense, it is essential that both the public sector and society as a whole recognize the importance
of specialized educational services for students with disabilities, severe learning and/or
behavioral disorders, as well as those with high abilities or giftedness. This recognition is
essential to ensure the intellectual and social development of these individuals. Given this
scenario, this study aimed to highlight the relevance of Inclusive Education through Specialized
Educational Services (AEE) in municipal schools in Sumé, Paraíba, as well as to analyze the
challenges faced for its effective implementation. To this end, explanatory research was
conducted, with a qualitative approach, in which the technique of semi-structured interviews
was adopted. This methodological procedure made it possible to identify the main obstacles in
the implementation of AEE in schools in the municipal education system, contributing to a more
in-depth reflection on the subject.
