Resumo:
The technical and scientific development achieved by the society in the last
decades generated an increase in the production of solid wastes, bringing drastic
consequences for the environment. This problem is a challenge for the government and
society. This work aims at elaborating a diagnostic of the management of white cottonderived solid wastes of a textile industry in Cajazeiras - PB. For this, it was carried out a
description of the textile productive process of white cotton and the identification of the types
of generated wastes. Qualitative and quantitative researches were conducted by means of onsite visits and direct interviews with workers responsible for the productive process. Records
from the technical and scientific literature were also explored. The results were organized and
analyzed and may be used as subsidies for future applications, since in the company there was
not previously researched and organized data. According to the obtained results, it was
verified that the company presents flaws in the solid wastes management, especially, due the
lack of an appropriate location to temporary disposal of solid wastes. The limited financial
resources of the company have also restricted the implementation of sustainable measures in
order to tackle waste management difficulties.
