Abstract:
Beekeeping is an activity that provides economic and social development in the
Northeast, offering great opportunities for family farms. It promotes family
development, as well as generating jobs and income to the man contributes to the
reduction of rural exodus. The data of this study were obtained by questionnaires and
semi-structured interviews, applied directly to producers and beekeepers association of
leaders of the community studied. The questionnaires were based on methodology used
by (EMBRAPA, 2002; SOUSA, 2003; MARTINS 2005 and SOUSA, 2013). This study
aimed to point out the existing structure in the administration and marketing of
Africanized honey bee in São Bento-PB. It was interviewed 19 beekeepers in the
association. The Quality of Life Index was developed by Fernandes (1997); (SOUSA,
2003). Following the methodology proposed by Sousa (2003); Martins (2005),
indicators for the composition of environmental index based on activities carried out by
the producers have been established and they are representative for the environmental
assessment and these were assigned values from O to 2. For the composition of this
particular index, indicators used to report ratios of capital, Quality of Life and
Environment, and therefore necessarily have been measured. In IQV parameter leisure
indicator obtained below (0.1111). In the composition of ICS, values for all parameters
was the same 0.1429. The Sustainability Index was acquired from the three indices
(ICS), (QLI and (IA), aiming at the participation of each of these for sustainable
development in beekeeping in São Bento, PB. The index greater than contributed to the
composition of the sustainability index was that of Social Capital (1.0000). As the
sustainability index was 1.9595, the interdependence between the three indexes (ICS
IQV and IA) shows that the decrease or increase of any of them interfere directly and
proportionately in others, and the environment as a whole. In order, to have sustainable
development and a balanced environment, the main problems that should be priorities
by the competent authorities are: the economic order, technological order, and water
retention projects, social, environmental and of health.
