Resumo:
The objective of this work was to characterize the sludge from upflow anaerobic sludge
blanket reactors (UASB) in two stages with volumes of 908 L and 188 L, first and second reactors,
respectively, treating swine wastewater with total suspended solids (TSS) ranging from 2216 first to
7131 mg L-1 and submitted to hydraulic detention times (HDT) of 62.3 and 31,1 h, in the reactor and
12.9 and 6.5 h, in the second reactor. In the sludge from reactors was verified a predominance of
organic matter around 71 to 91% of volatile solids. The organic loading rate in the sludge varied from
0.39 to 0.42 g COV (g VS d)-1 in the first reactor and from 0.04 to 0.28 g CDO (g VS d)-1 in the
second reactor and were not limiting the of formation sludge with granules with these consitons was
observed god metanogenic and high efficiencies of CDO removal and methane production.
