Abstract:
The current concern with the total quality in the coffee growing, it has been
taking the producers adapt their production systems in agreement with the norms of the
certifying enterprises and with the new demands of the consuming market. In the processing of
the coffee, some stages as the separation and the drying of the product, they can represent risks
of environmental impacts, be for the elimination of the waste water of the washers in streams
and springs or for the illegal extraction of wood for use in the dryers. The objective of this work
was to diagnose the possible damages caused to the environment current of the separation
processes and drying of the coffee. The work was accomplished through observations " in loco "
and photographic registrations in 30 properties, located in three rural associations in São
Sebastião do Paraíso county, MG, defined for draw. The analysis of the data showed that in
100% of the visited properties there was not any treatment method for the water originating
from residuária the separation of the coffee. Of the total of visited properties, approximately
16% possessed dryer to the firewood, and of these, only 20% possessed liberation of IEF for
extraction of the wood used in the drying of the coffee.
