Abstract:
Pesticide indexation in relation to potential contamination, toxicological classification
and detrimental environment is very important to get information, not only, in relation to availability,
but also, water quality. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the pesticide use on irrigated land
to understand the risks to environmental sustainability. The work was developed in the specified area
between Castanhão dam and Itaiçaba County. The research covered seven Counties, where the main
crops in terms of irrigated area are: rice (1,602 ha) and beans (884 ha). Forms were applied to 7% of
the producers registered in the COGERH license for water management in 2003. Results showed up a
high use of organophosphorate. More than 50% of commercial products listed in the research
presented high and medium potential of water contamination. It was necessary to identify the
relationship of climatic condition of the region and biodegradation of pesticides presents in surface
water. The continuation of these actions represents a risk to environmental sustainability of the region.
