Resumo:
With the goal of evaluating the waters quality of 9 wells located in of the João Dias
River Basin, Aquidauana/MS, it was developed this research. They were realized seasonal analyses of
total and fecal coliforms correlating them with pH and turbidity. The Multiple Tubes method was used
and the results expressed in More Probable Number of total and fecal coliforms (MPN per 100 mL of
water). The higher coliforms MPN was registered in the rainy stations (Spring and Summer) in
practically all the wells and in the dry period (Autumn and Winter) a reduction. Turbidity, pH and
MPN of bacteria presented an apparent relationship being reduced in the wells P3, P4, P5 and P9 in all
the stations and elevated in the wells P1, P2, P7 and P8 (Spring and Summer). As the most of wells are
shallow and have inadequate construction, these contributed to the contamination of the underground
waters and becomes a risk to that community's population. In agreement with the Brazilian Effective
Legislation, for waters human consumption the total and fecal coliforms should be absent.
