Resumo:
There are numerous current proposals and theoretical studies on the application of raw
water charges in Brazilian hydrographic basins. However, there are as yet few studies in Brazil that
assess this charges in the agricultural sector. The aim of the present study was to analyze the viability
of raw water charges in agriculture using the case study of the Santa Maria River Basin in the state of
Rio Grande do Sul. In accordance with the criteria used, it can be concluded that an investment
scenario of R$ 6.5 million per year is viable for just 50% of the registered agricultural users in the
basin.
