“Eis aqui a receita”: os manuais de conduta e a tessitura da mulher brasileira “ideal” (1950-1960).

Abstract

The 20th century is characterized by movements that created constant changes in society, changing values, habits or social practices; however, Literature has been following these developments and making these processes more evident in all aspects. The objective of this research is to put in thought the behavioural construction of women in Brazil, in the 1950's and 1960's through key concepts of Roger Chartier, such as reading, appropriation and representation. With that in mind, it is done an analysis of the changes and continuity in the role of the brazilian woman, observing the conduct manuais "Leam Good Manners" and "What Every Housewife Should Know", the norms for female etiquette, that were comprehended as idealized beings, constructed, historically, as models responsible for marital and social happiness, which meant there were expectations as to what her regulated roles were, according to these manuais, seen that these women were entering the workplace in the 1950's and 1960's in Brazil.
