Resumen:
This monograph aims to analyze the discourses about the Laic Education at the city of
Campina Grande - PB, from the Instituto Pedagógico Campinense, founded in 1919 by the
lieutenant Alfredo Dantas, thinking from the perspective of educational movement of Escola
Nova. The documentation selected during this study consists of laws; magazines, as Revista
Evolução (1931-1932), produced by the Instituto Pedagógico that circulated in the city
between the years from 1931 and 1932, addressing, affairs of that everyday from the Instituto
and from the city and newspaper, A União (1920), Brasil Novo (1931), Comércio de Campina
(1932) and Evolução-Jornal (1934). In support of our discussions we dialogue with the
following authors: Ramsés Silva (2006, 2012) about the denominational schools and process
of secularization and secularization of public education; Ranquetat Jr. (2007) and Fr. Leonel
Franca (1931) to understand the assumptions of secular and religious education in Brazil;
Ghiraldelli Jr. (1990) and Mate (2002) to have an understanding of the movement of the
Escola Nova. The theoretical and methodological assumptions relied on the approaches of a
New Cultural History, thought by Michel de Certeau (2012) to think about the daily life and
also the french philosopher Michel Foucault (1979, 2009) from his propositions about
discourse analysis.
