Abstract

This work is scoped religions of african-Brazilian origin, especially Umbanda, his doctrine and expressions of faith. In the first half of the twentieth century Umbanda was recognized as genuinely Brazilian religion, which differs from camdomblé and Macumba. The aim o f this study is to detect as they are inserted in the cultural practices of Umbanda and the persons hierarchy is within that religion and deconstruct prejudice historically effected in relation to religions that have African roots. For this, we used the literature to support our study and research field in a Spiritual Center in the city of Alagoa Grande - PB. From the analysis of the speeches of the regulars of this religious manifestation it is believed that this study will contribute to the elucidation of the religious practices of Umbanda, as well as greater knowledge of his doctrine.
