O convento e a cidade: a influência do Colégio Seráfico de Santo Antônio (Ipuarana) na cidade de Lagoa Seca-PB (1942-1972).

Abstract

This paper analyzes the Franciscan presence in the town of Lagoa Seca, Paraíba, through the St. Anthony's Seraphic College, today known as Ipuarana Convent. Documentary sources for the study of ancient Seraphic College, edits the Journal St. Anthony, memory books, and especially of oral sources are used to reflect on the experience Seraphic College during the 30 years (1942-1972) who worked in the Convent of Ipuarana. At first, makes a historicizing the restoration process of the Franciscan order in Brazil, reflecting on the Franciscan presence in Paraíba to understand the "why" of the Anthony's Seraphic College have been built in the town of Lagoa Seca. The second stage of this work it is a reflects on the formation of Lagoa Seca and the cultural role played by the St. Anthony's Seraphic College - Ipuarana this locality, in order that the operation of a religious institution should be understood, the it’s deep immersion in context and in society in which it is inserted. The third chapter explores mainly oral sources and memory books, to reflect on the daily lives of students and the educational-religious project of which they were part.
