Resumo:
The story builds and changes daily. From this larger idea, this paper aims to reflect on one of
the most exciting and intriguing stories of the Brazilian agrarian landseape: the fight Alves,
and the construction of his identity as leader of the Rural Workers Union of Alagoa Grande,
between 1973 and 1983, year of his assassination. From the questioning of the oral testimony
of relatives, neighbors and coworkers, will examine the experience of peasant leader of the
people who caused much inconvenience to the landowners. Each testimony will be
transcribed here is a specific moment in the life course and fight the leader of the swamp. The
reports are used with the intention of bringing the field of history places of sociability built by
the respondents in their daily lives, such as home, the Street, the Union, the field. Place of
living, achievements and challenges faced by farmers and Alves. Through the construction of
memory and identity of a leader, there is tourism with a view to preserving the culture and
make it a tourist product. ít is not intended here only biography about the life and struggle,
but more importantly, analyze the contributions that historically Margarida Alves left us.
Moreover, it is urgent to know and to look critically on the structure of land ownership in
Brazil to try to understand why so many peasant leaders had to die in the name of land reform
in this country.
