Digitalização da base de dados do PROJIR.

Abstract

Cartographic and thematic databases available in Brazil are restricted to urban centers and areas of strategic interest, because of the high cost of its attainment. Between 1981 and 1983 an soil management researches was elaborated together with a macro irrigation project, in the Norte Fluminense, co-ordinated by the Instituto do Açúcar e do Álcool (IAA), through the PLANALSUCAR, "Projeto de Irrigação e Drenagem da Cana-de-Açúcar na Região Norte Fluminense" called, PROJIR. The aim area of this study has 250.000 ha, which 182,000 hectares was considered able to the irrigation. In this work a complete cartographic structure was elaborated, containing a photogrammetric coverage, scales average 1/15,000 of an area of 320.000 hectares and topographical maps with scales of 1/5.000, 1/10,000 and 1/25.000. The present work aims to preserve the cartographic and thematic collection of the PROJIR by scanning and digitalizing. Of a goal of 298 maps foreseen for the first stage of the project 182 had been digitalizing. The digitalizing maps have made possible the database update and its use in public and private projects.
