Resumo:
The hilly grasslands of the province of San Luis haven not been well studied yet. The
aim of this study was to identify the physiognomic types of vegetation of “pampa de las invernadas”
(San Luis, Argentina). We used the physiographic analysis methodology at a detail scale and
determined four physiognomic types where we analyzed soils and vegetation. We called them: “estepa
graminosa”, which includes communities of many important species of Poaceae genera (Nassella spp,
Bothriochloa spp., Stipa spp). These communities develop over deep and fertile soils; “céspedes
hidromórficos” where soils are imbibed of water most of the months of the year, there, the species
belong to Cyperaceae and Juncaceae families; and “peladales” and “afloramientos rocosos” where
vegetation grows over not developed rocky soils. We concluded that the methodology used allowed us
to know, characterize and delimit the physiognomic types of vegetation in a very efficient and precise
way.
