Abstract:
The shortage of drinking water is a big concern, particularly in arid and semi-arid areas. In
that sense, the rational and optimized use of the water is a need, specifically in agricultural and industrial
activities. In this sense, the estimate of the evapotranspiration (ET) it is an important tool, mainly when
using methods that make possible your assessment in regional scale. The objective of the present study is
the determination of ET according to orbital images and the SEBAL algorithm that provides ET
estimations from the latent heat flux obtained as residue of the energy balance equation (BE). The BE is
calculated with radiance in the visible and of the infra-red bands, through physical parameterizations. So
this research has as main objective the determination of the daily ET in the Cariri areas of Ceará State,
based on the application of SEBAL to two TM-Landsat 5 images. When compared with surface data, the
estimates of SEBAL presented good agreement showing in that way, the efficiency of SEBAL in the
estimate of the evapotranspiração, when applied to high resolution orbital images.
