Resumen:
The growth of irrigated agriculture with the National Water Resources Plan is
discussed in this presentation. Information on environmental impacts of irrigation, its contribution to
the Brazilian agribusiness is evaluated. Details on the Plan, its components, instruments and
objectives are also related and compared to the necessity of growth at the Brazilian agriculture. The
grower participation at the Plan construction is extremely important and several actions will be
necessary such as wter management, water use measurement, labor training referring to water use,
equipment maintenance, and also the participation of farmers at the watershed committees. The plans
at watershed level should carefully evaluate the flow rate that can be granted as an important
component of Brazilian agriculture. The flow rate to be granted at several water sources will allow the
growth of irrigated agriculture ant the intelligent and shared use of water resource will allow the
increase of water use in the future and guarantee the development of Brazilian society.
